Selecting one of: -ik

Take a quick survey and help make HungarianReference.com even better

This simple ending allows us to choose one of something from an implied list.

To create this, we add -ik to the item, and precede it with the definite article.

Even though an implied list means several items, the qualifier is placed into the singular.

  • az egyik one of (them)
  • a másik the other (of them)
  • a nagyobbik the larger (of them)
  • a kisebbik the smaller (of them)
  • melyik? which (of them)?

Here is an example: az egyik barátom one of my friends Note how barátom is singular.
